After this, you will then follow the instructions below for magnet students.

Magnet applications are available at your base school when you register your child, or may be picked up at the Magnet Resource Center in North Raleigh. Their phone number is 501-7900.
Staggered Entry
What it is and how it works
Like all Wake County elementary schools, Wiley has staggered entry for kindergarteners. This means that during the first week of classes in the Fall, your kindergartener will attend school just one day. The purpose of the staggered entry is for the kindergarten teachers to observe and assess the students, and then, in conjunction with the principal, place the students in kindergarten classes. You will be called after the staggered entry days and informed which classroom you kindergartener will be reporting to.
If you have specific concerns about your child in regard to his/her placement, you can send a letter to the principal by mid-July (check with the office for the specific deadline), describing your concerns and the type of teacher with which you feel your child will do best. You cannot request a specific teacher, but all attempts to take your concerns and your child's personality, learning ability, and skills into account are made.
How your staggered entry day is determined
The day your child attends during that first week is determined by the date for which you sign your child up. One day in May of the preceding school year, all upcoming kindergarten students are invited to visit the kindergarten classes at Wiley (along with their parents). Afterward, your child is then invited to join the kindergarteners in the cafeteria for lunch. When you first arrive on this day there are sign-up sheets provided for the parents to sign their children up for a staggered entry day. If you discover your child will be attending Wiley AFTER this day, a staggered entry day will be assigned to you based upon availability.
